Biomechanical / Human Factors Services

HPW is a professional, scientific and engineering group that can provide a wide range of consulting services in the area of biomechanics/human performance. Biomechanics is an area of study that uses physics and engineering principles to study the interactions between humans and various machine systems in such areas as sport, recreation, and workplace environments. One application of these services is in the area of accident analysis and reconstruction.

Other applications include equipment design and evaluation, injury prevention and performance analysis. Equipment design projects have focused on athletic and leisure footwear and exercise equipment such as treadmills, climbers, cycles, and weight lifting equipment. Other projects have included functional analysis of lower extremity rigid, rotational control orthoses and evaluation of prototype hand held grocery store scanners. Design projects always include evaluation but some projects have focused on the evaluation of someone else's design to evaluate such things as injury potential, safety, and performance efficiency.

A final category of services is in the area of work site analysis. Here again, injury prevention and performance efficiency are critical factors along with the development of screening tests in accordance with various standards and specifications. Some of the specific services provided by HPW include the following:
