Product Testing - Footwear

HPW staff work extensively in the footwear industry, primarily in the area of athletic footwear design, development, and testing. Our on-going research efforts in the domain of human locomotion, running, and lower extremity injury etiology have resulted in over 150 peer-reviewed manuscripts in this area, addressing our professional reputation in this field. Our research has also resulted in a footwear design patent (US Patent # 4,364,189) which has been instrumental in the concept of constructing the footwear midsole as a mechanism for shock-attenuation during running.

HPW maintains a research facility which allows for both human in-shoe testing and mechanical shoe and/or component testing. In addition, physiological components of performance can be simultaneously assessed, which provides a more complete picture of the effects of footwear on locomotor performance.
